TIGERS-EYE and TIGER IRON

TIGERS-EYE (or Tigereye) is available in a golden brown, reddish brown, and greenish brown. Another variety, called HAWKS-EYE has a much darker bluish to black color. Miriam’s gorgeous Tigers-Eye and Hawks-Eye jewelry features stones, carved into smoothly polished spheres, triangles or rondelles, all patterned with natural bands and swirls. The striking optical effect, due to fibers in the stone, makes the surface appear to shimmer as the stone is rolled from side to side. The red version is gently heat treated to bring out the iron oxide that is a natural component of the stone. The blue stones are also heat treated to bring out the blue crocidolite fibers. These beautiful stones are found in the United States, Canada, Korea, China, Brazil, Namibia, India, and Burma. TIGER IRON is a composite stone created by nature from golden yellow Tigers-Eye, Black Hematite, and a deep reddish-brown Jasper. Tiger Iron does not show the optical effect of Tigers-eye, but has an interesting banded pattern that is even more lovely when the stone is faceted or highly polished. The Hematite has a gunmetal grey silky sheen. Tiger Iron is found in South Africa, with major deposits in Australia.

Tigers-Eye and Jet Necklace

The cuff-like design of this bold TIGERS-EYE Necklace is enhanced by Miriam's generous use of hammered Sterling Silver rondelles in an eye-catching design.

The red, golden-brown and blue Tigers and Hawks-Eye stones are triangular and measure 0.5 inches, and are 0.25 inches thick.

Tigers-Eye & Bali Focal Necklace

This red and golden-brown Tigers-Eye Necklace is designed using a variety of shaped stones. The focal point of the Necklace is an ornate handcrafted Silver Bali Bead that is 3/8-inches in diameter and round Tigers-Eye measuring 0.25 inches in diameter. The barrel-shaped beads vary from 3/8 to 0.25 inches; some are faceted.

Tigers-Eye & Hammered Silver Necklace

This stunning necklace is beautifully accented with rectangular and barrel-shaped hammered Sterling Silver. BRONZITE and PIETERSITE

BRONZITE is a rich chocolate brown with metallic areas that have a distinct golden-bronze luster. It is a mineral that contains iron and magnesium. Gemologists refer to the shimmering quality of this stone as chatoyancy - an optical reflectance that looks like a silky sheen. Technically, chatoyancy comes either from the fibrous structure of the material or from fibrous inclusions or cavities within the stone. Bronzite deposits are found in Burma, Brazil, Kenya, India, Mexico, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Tanzania and the United States.

Miriam loves how the shimmering golden-bronze chatoyancy of Bronzite blends beautifully with another natural stone - PIETERSITE. This remarkable and rare variety of tiger-eye was first discovered in 1962. It is most commonly found in Namibia, South Africa, and in 1993 was found near Nanyang, Henan, China. In addition to the deep golden brown coloration, Chinese Pietersite has striking combinations of red, maroon and blue color segments that may appear alone or together. (Reportedly, this variety of PIETERSITE was not exported to the West until 1997, when the Chinese became aware of its value.) Pietersite blues may range from a baby blue to a dark midnight hue. Pietersite shows the same striking chatoyancy as Bronzite, with bright and subtly changing shimmers of color that moves along the surface of the stone as it is viewed from varying angles.

The rectangular BRONZITE focal stone of this bold Necklace measures 1 x 1.25 inches. The 2.25-inch Pendant is attached to an unusual Sterling Silver beaded element attached to a four-strand Necklace that includes one strand of Pietersite and one strand of hand-rolled African brass beads.
